What exactly should we use 18185 for?

We have BT Option 3 (free anytime landline calls). I can't find a simple list of BT's call charges anywhere so it's impossible to compare them to the 18185 rates.
What call types are 18185 cheaper than BT for and what times of day?

What call types are 18185 cheaper than BT for and what times of day?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz! I knew there was a good explanation on here somewhere but I was looking in the articles.
Can you explain to me the bit about mobiles? What happens if the call is longer than 2 mins?
Also, we have a mobile number included as a friends and family number. Should we use 18185 for that one too?0 -

You have a good point. Part of the reason we took out option 3 instead of 2 was because it said it made the mobile calls cheaper (we make a lot of mobile calls). Would it be best to move down to option 2? Especially if we start using 18185 for the mobile calls?0 -
I can tell you how i use 18185.A call anytime during day on my BT land line costs 5p irrespective of how long i am on the phone.I can text my family on mobiles abroad for 1p per text on Internet and mobile numbers in uk for 6p per minute.I just hve basic BT package paying line rental only and using the prefix 18185 before all my calls with the exception of 0845 and simular numbers.0

It sounds like if your not in a contract that you would be better off dropping down to the basic BT free weekend call option, and follow the Heinz plan.;)
That way you only pay for calls as and when you need to,you dont pay for service when your away eg. Holidays.0
