I've done more than my fair share of walking over 50 years. Walking boots and shoes are grossly overpriced. I swear by Lidl's gear, recently walked the Coast to Coast on HD shoes costing a fiver. What you need are soft and flexible and cheap boots or shoes, or even strong trainers. There is no such thing as a waterproof footwear, if it's good enough to withstand rainwater it will sweat up inside anyway. Like Wainwright said, get your feet wet early on. Brasher boots cost ten times that of HiTech flexibles and last just as long.
