A heavy rain waterproof dog walking jacket, where?

Options
Hi all,

There are no doubt plenty of dog owners on the MSE site so here's my query, where can i find a good waterproof jacket that is not in the obscene amount of money category?
It's for use in the heavy rain that we have been getting and no doubt will get for the next 9 months! I have 2 or 3 that are waterproof but not heavy rain waterproof, i always end up soaked at some part of my body!
I used to have a Barbour wax jacket years ago and it did the job fantastically but the price of Barbours is extortionate and there seems to be no deals to be had anywhere.
I have thought about Berghaus and North Face etc but am afraid to buy online and find out that it's not much better than what i have.

So what advice can anyone give on where to buy a heavy rain waterproof jacket??

Cheers

I've had a Helly Hansen coastal jacket for about 6 years and never got any bit wet. As I haven't bought one for so long I'm not sure of the costs but it's been a best buy for me and it still goes on...

I wouldn't have thought Berghaus and North Face were much cheaper than Barbour anyway.

Are you male or female? How much are you willing to pay?
  • Male.

Like everyone i'm looking for something for nothing ;)! I realize what your saying in that Berghaus etc are not much cheaper but you seem to be able to find 'deals' on Berghaus( prob exagerated RRP in fairness) which make you think that a £300 jacket can be bought for £130.
Ideally i'd like to spend around £75 or less.

    Cheers

Might be worth looking in Millets, they usually have some pretty decent ones as long as you are not too hung up on having a nice label.

    Or try Hawskead.com?

Damp dog walkers of the world unite!!!

Just got thorughly fed up myself and got 2 Gore-tex coats, on for me and one for OH from Jackson Sports - clicky

Mine is a Lowe Alpine and was £89, OH's is a berghaus, £99

Had non Gore Tex before and found that eventually that persistent (PEEEEEEEEING) rain does get through, but not with these bad boys! :j

    Happy shopping......................
comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:
  • I can thoroughly recommend Craghopper jackets. Mine kept me dry while we were camping this summer, & we had really wet weather:cry: Saying that my husband is after a Berghaus jacket, we're going to look at Go outdoors as they've got 20% off Berghaus until the end of the week http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/
  • I have a Sprayway jacket and wouldn't recommend one, the dry pocket that I put my mobile in gets wet and the hood unzips too easily, even just hanging it up by the hood leads to it unzipping!

  • I have a Mountainlife Storm 3 in 1 Jacket it is very warm & waterproof, i have had no leaks even in very heavy rain, they are not bad prices either. I always get the 3 in 1 type jackets - i get cold easily!
  • Sorry if I'm being glib - I thought you wanted a jacket for your dog! :D

  • Most of the above brands are usually available from TK Maxx at good reductions. Last autumn I bought a craghopper and a sprayaway jacket there and they are both VERY waterproof and breathable. £20 each if memory serves and fine over a fleece when it gets colder.
