Hi,

Doing MOT's this way had never occured to me, so thank you to MSE for the tip. I looked into this after reading about it, and the depot is literally the next building to where I work! So I just wanted to mention the Meadowfield Depot where Durham County Council do MOT's. I had the car in last week for £42, and a free retest within 10 days!

I'm a new 'un so can't post a link, but using a popular web based search site and entering "durham county council MOT" will jump to their contact page, as they have 4 depots which can do MOT's for the public around County Durham

Booked my MOT for next week (10th April) at the Gateshead Council depot, the fee is £54.85 cash or cheque only, I'll post on here how I get on.

Just across the border with Newcastle, I highly recommend AF Motors in Cramlington (just around the corner from the new hospital), Northumberland. £30 for MOT and a free retest. I've always used them for repairs/tyres and they give you a fair price. Never let me down yet.
