Change of itenerary after deposit paid?

Can somebody explain to me what my rights are regarding the following..
A travel agent provided an itenerary for flights and a hotel for part of my stay. I wanted to arrange some other hotels but I waited until I had confirmed the flights and paid my deposit. After doing this I booked 2 hotels and an internal flight independently. Today the travel agent informs me that due to an oversight they can't provide me the flights at the same price on the same day. They can give me an alternative date though.
Where do I stand? Can I hold them to the original dates given that I'd paid a deposit? Are they obliged to assist financially if I incur fees for altering the dates of the hotels and flight I arranged independently?
Thanks,

Hold to original dates?? don't now but I'm dubious. I think you should be able to cancel without penalty though.
Expenses for altering independent arrangements - no way.0
