Does anyone live in or near Saffron Walden?

Just a long shot, but we're thinking of moving a bit further out from East Herts to somewhere a bit more rural, but still requiring easy access into London. One of the areas we could be interested in is Saffron Walden.
Does anyone one here come from or live near the area that could provide a 'review' of the area, where to avoid, schools for our 2 young kids etc..?

many thanks as usual for any advice

  • SWCHS has a very good reputation - the teachers I've come into contact with there were excellent.
  • I have lived in Saffron Walden for over twenty years and it has alot to offer, especially when it comes to schools. The town itself has some excellent Primary schools, such as RAButler school, but these can be difficult to get into, however the quality of the local village schools is also very high, two I would reccomend inquiring about are Debden and Radwinter. SWCHS is an excellent secondary school, regularly finishing near the top of the national schools tables
