Reopening a current account closed by bank

Barclays terminated my account in May due to missing payments on my overdraft arrangement. As a result, I have been using Natwest savings for my daily banking (dd, salary, etc).
Now, Natwest contacted me to advise that they have warned me in the past that I can't have direct debits and should not do normal banking on a savings account, so they have decided not to accept any DD and I need to change the account my salary goes into.
My question is, how likely is Barclays to reactivate the account now that I finally paid the overdraft?
Failing that, can anyone recommend a basic current account for someone with poor credit?
Or how quick can I open a bank account to provide my employer the new details until 12 tomorrow?
Many thanks

I can't imagine that Barclays would want to reopen the account.
Can't you get a NatWest Step account? That is a basic Bank account and you could just switch your DD's over from your savings account.

Failing the Natwest account Beanie mentioned, you could try the Halifax Easycash account. Apply and manage the account online. You get an electron card.0

Banks, as a rule, dont allow direct debits on a savings account.
You can receive credits, and pay bills via their bill payment facility, if that's an option.
Otherwise, open a step account with NatWest, if you require direct debits.Barclays terminated my account in May due to missing payments on my overdraft arrangement. As a result, I have been using Natwest savings for my daily banking (dd, salary, etc).
