cheap duplo/kids games

Hello

2 questions really..
1) can anyone suggest where i could get some duplo as cheap as possible. Ideally i'm after the "big barn" set that's around £34.99 and a set of just general pieces (saw a set of 120 pieces for £19.99)

2) can anyone suggest some "family games" i could play with a 2 and a 3 year old? We try to have a family evening at least once a week. At the minute we have some thick large dominoes with pictures on for young kids. They've mastered this game. ALso got some cheap picture cards for a game of snap. i was thinking of something else along the "family games" theme. Has anyone any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

We used to play Crazy Caterpillar at that age, I think it came from Early Learning Centre but I don't see it on their website so maybe it's discontinued. However if you ever see it secondhand (maybe at an NCT nearly new sale) then it is worth buying as very easy for young children to pick it up.

Sorry can't really recommend any games but I would recommend having a look in your local charity shops. They can have some great bargains if you look hard enough. Last week got a nice Ludo wooden game set and Rapidough, both in excellent condition and all for £4. Bargain :j
Looking to raise some money ;)
  • I got a box of 120 duplo half price at woolies, £12.95 I think

    Snakes and Ladders
    Ludo
    Guess Who
    matching games

Although not educational in any way, my 3 year old loves hungry hippos - infact so do I!

This might be too difficult for the 2 year old but what about "beetle" All you need is a dice , paper and pencils. I can't remember which number is for what though. Perhaps someone else can help.

    6 - body 4 - eyes (2) 2 - feelers (2)
    5 - head 3 - wings (2) 1 - legs (6)

Don't know if your numbers are 'right' although 6 is right for the body. Trouble is if you're playing it 'properly' you can't start until you've thrown a 6, and that can be quite hard for a 2 year old (or even a 12 year old!) to understand, that a sibling has won before they've had a chance to start!

  • Mine loved misfits at that age. Uno is great fun when they are older.

thank you everyone for your suggestions.

I saw a 120 duplo box for £19.99 in toysRus so i might try woolies later today....
  • downfall is okay at that age. They dont really understand it, but can work the cogs to make their discs fall down. they can also play it alone so it doubles up as a toy for their own use too.

uno extreme (the one with the machine which sends out cards) is good if the younger one is in charge of pressing the button. They have to understand, though, that they can only press it when told!

I bought some great family games for my 2 year old from ELC that we have all enjoyed playing with him

    1. Jitterbugs was reduced to £4 -a battery operated game were you all have a magnetic spider on a piece of string and have to catch the bugs that are moving about on the board. Similar to the old fishing game we all had.

    2. Puff the Dragon was reduced to £4 - similar to Pop Up Pirate but for younger children. My son and I always get a surprise when it pops up.

My MIL has also bought him an alien hammer game from ELC that looks good but I haven't actually played with it.

I love playing games that we can all enjoy. Feel sorry for my older children as the 2 year old distrupts their "older" games cos he doesnt understand.
    regards
