British Gas Fixed Price 2011 scheme to end 18/09
Options
Fixed Price 2011 closes and Fixed Price 2012 launches on Thursday
17 September 2008.
British Gas are replacing Fixed Price 2011 with Fixed Price 2012 on Thursday 18 September. Fixed Price 2011 allocation is running out fast.

FP2011 will be withdrawn from sale and FP2012 should be promoted and sold in its place from Thursday.
What does FP2012 mean for customers?
Fixed Price 2012 customers can, for a premium, fix their energy prices at the 30 July 2008 rates. These prices will be fixed until 31 January 2012.
Gas is offered at a 7.4% premium and Electricity at a 7.4% premium, above 30 July standard variable rates, until 31 January 2012.
The rates are at a premium because of wholesale price rises since we hedged (bought) FP2011. We’re not the only supplier to charge a premium – e.g. npower’s current long-term contract has a 9% premium.
Customers on FP2012 will not be eligible for MDD discount.
Sorry about the copy and paste. The basic upshot is that you can still sign-up for 2011 Fixed Price until 18/09 (Thurs). From Thurs onwards the new fixed price deal will be significantly worse as you will have to pay a 7.3% premium ontop of the current rates, lose out on the Monthly Direct Debit savings and the extended 2012 scheme only gives a further 4mths protection.
Not trying to sell anything, just providing the advance notice the scheme ends tomorrow for anyone considering fixing

But energy costs have fallen by a third since July. If anything tariffs should be cheaper not more expensive. :mad:0

No one should be copying info given to Staff. You could advise that 2011 was ending tonight but I think you are wrong to cut and paste.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

Just opened mail from BG stating 120% increase on MDD as of next month. Quite angry as have cheek to end letter with 'delighted you're one of our customers' - I fully understand why.
Woul appreciate help on fixed 2011 deal - am currently on phone to them for advice but have been holding for 17 minutes!! Just spoken to them and they've advised that the letter is an error as the system which calculates is wrong and that the figure is fictituous!!!!! Letter are apparently being sent out to apologise and advise of correct figure. Advisor worked out that it should have been 35% increase (as detailed in tables on this website). Have now got more info from him on the 2011 deal..
Finishes at 8pm tonight! Unit rate price capped till 2011. Obviously bills will be based on energy consumption. Looked at dual fuel and have been quoted 20.oo per month cheaper than current provider (who has not yet put prices up). 7 days cooling off period if change mind.0 -

It would appear BG have hit on a bit of an earner with these Fixed products. I'm dreading the almost inevitable horror stories on here when they start cold calling punters about the new 2012 Fix....Call me Carmine....

This information was not priviledged, and was available to any customer who asked yesterday.
It was a bit lazy of me to cut and paste it, but well thats my fault for being rather busy. I would also say that without people giving a heads up, this site would be a poorer place.
Thank you for your concern anyway.0 -
I have read all posts etc but am still unsure as to what will be best. We have just moved into a new house and i am thinking i will get dual click energy 5 with bg. this comes up as best in comparison sites but theyve not put prices up yet. and then they are meant to do the same in jan!!?!?!
Should i fix though???
Am happy to do online and d/d etc etc.
what's best?
We live in a large house for just 2 of us but don't use much gas and electric really.
thanks,0 -
No-one can really tell you what to do because no-one can see into the future (although a few seem to suggest they can). For instance, we had so-called experts just a few short months ago predicting oil would reach $200 a barrel by now. It's less than $100 a barrel at the moment, down from a high of $147. Whatever you do is a bit of a gamble, tbh.Call me Carmine....
