Hi gerrysea,
Although the CT "antecedent valuation date" is based on 1st April 1991, CT itself wasn't introduced until 1993, so my understanding is that any refund will be backdated to then.
Congratulations! Another post to show that persistence pays! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Well done gerry, refund should be backdated to 1 Apr 93, date of start of CT, so 15 yrs of difference between E and D, nice four figure sum.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Hi Guys,
Thanks for putting me right on that, so 1 April 1993 it is then. Do I need to write to the Billing Authority requesting this or will it be a matter of course????

Hi gerry,
It should be a matter of course, the VOA sends a list to the council and the council then actions it. You may however want to speak to the council to see how they split the money. For example, you may want a lump sum and the council may want to use part of it to pay down your current bill. So its worth speaking to them just to understand that part so you don't just understand what you're getting now, but your obligations going forward. It does take a while though. If you've only just had the letter, don't be surprised if the council don't seem to know about it yet. Where I am it takes about 6-8 weeks before the refunds are processed for long term rebands like this as the council operated a manual system back then.
E to D... Nice reband. My understanding is that's just over 20% of the total will have been overpaid, that'll be a tidy sum as Lincroft says! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Hi vivatifosi.
Thanks for that info. It’s no surprise to me that it’ll take a while, it’s been so slow and ponderous to date, and I didn’t imagine it would change a great deal at this point.
Oooohh don’t, you’re getting me all exited mate! :money:vivatifosi wrote: »Hi gerry, ……………. E to D... Nice reband. My understanding is that's just over 20% of the total will have been overpaid, that'll be a tidy sum as Lincroft says!
