Advice regarding energy switch.
Options
Hi
Sorry to start my own thread on this as I am sure it will have been covered ni multiple places elsewhere but I am a bit pressed for time at work and wont be able to run through all of those to get the answer.
Quick run down of situation:
Bought a new build flat last year, EDF are my supplier for both gas and electric. Took best part of a year for them to get themselves organised and bill me for either and consequently both bills were relatively big - about £250 a piece off the top of my head. Anyway, arranged to pay them by DD at a slightly higher amount in order to clear by the end of the year if all goes to plan.
So my question is this - if I were to review my suppliers and need to switch to a new company, do I have to clear my outstanding balance with EDF in full before I am able to move or am I able to transfer this to the new provider? If I have to clear the balance in full then I think I will be best to stay put and take the best EDF can offer me in terms of capped rate etc, if I can transfer then I may be able to get a better deal elsewhere.
Advice much appreciated.
Thanks

You will not be allowed to change supplier if you have an outstanding debt with them. You'll need to clear the debt before they will allow you to switch."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
