Just moved house - how do I choose my supplier?
Options
As the title says, I have recently moved into rented accommodation that is currently supplied by British Gas for both gas and electricity. The landlady said that she had the rate capped until 2011, but that I could change supplier if I wanted.
I phoned BG as I have now been there for over 2 weeks and heard nothing from them (all other utility companys had been in contact).
I finally spoke with someone who told me that my landlady's contract does not apply to me. They supply the account, not the property (!) so I need to take out a new contract with them (and the prices have now gone up).
My question is, how do I find out who the best supplier for me would be? I have gone onto USwitch and Scottish Power looks good, but my situation is not 'textbook' ie. I have my 3 children living with me every other week, so I found it difficult to answer the questions on USwitch.
Of course BG are supplying me at the moment (by default), but I don't want to get tied into a contract until 2011 as I will only be renting for a year.
I don't even know how much BG will be charging me - they bill every 3 months I think.
Any advice greatfully received.
