£9,000 Tsb

Options
I have only recently realised that my long service 30 year old Lloyds TSB card has a credit limit of £9,000 on it and I cant think of any way to make use of it.

I wonder if I would be better off paying it off and getting a new one. Although I notice on the T&c's for the Platinum card it says 2% for BT's.

Any thoughts please.

  • What type of card is it? Trustcard, Classic reserve,Platinum etc etc.
Some of the old TSB cards had a points system where you can redeem them for goods - this might be worth having if you do not carry a large o/s balance.
If you do have a largish balance o/s consider asking them for their Rewards card (Amex) where you can get 0% (I think 2% BTF is charged) and they split your limit between the 2 cards.

With LLoyds TSB you can only have one card with them. Apply on line for the Plat card and they will open up a new account for you and transfer your old credit limit to the new card and you will get zero percent interest for nine months but must be done on line. I know this works because I have just done this in the last month.

    Yes it is a Trustcard.

I was looking in their site last night and it seems as if I might as well get a new card. Would it be best to pay it off first or let them transfer any debit over and take advantage of any 0% they give on other things.

You'll have to move the debt somewhere else first...

"Credit card balances must be transferred from non-Lloyds TSB group credit cards"

I had an outstanding debt of 15k on the former LLoyds card and they transferred the debt to my new card BUT I noted by them doing this the 0 percent would have finished in December 05. As the new card was offering 0 percent for 9 months I had to find away of clearing the transferred debt.
I got the debt transferred to a non LLoyds card and when this was done I got Lloyds to balance transfer back again so I could now enjoy 0 percent for 9 months.

    This is incorrect.
You can have one of their Visa or Mastercards as well as the new AMEX rewards card

Look buddie I was trying to be helpful. However that said you can have two cards BUT buddie you have to share the credit limit of the main card. Based on the fact yu have to share the limit this really is not going to help the poster. However buddie if my advice is followed then the poster will get zero percent at 9 months.

In future check your facts because it is no good posting regularly when your replies are just fantasy.

Over to you Mr Everso regular poster.
  • Hello CTT bud. Sorry if I upset you when you posted incorrect information and I corrected you.
Your posting no.3 on this forum is wrong - plain and simple!
Dishmop the OP has not stated anywhere how much he has outstanding on the card so how can you say that the information that I posted is not going to help him?
Indeed he seemed suprised to have a limit of £9000 on the card so the chances of him having a debt of that amount is small - therefore the splitting of the limit could well be beneficial to him.
Until Dishmop reveals the amount we can go no further!

It's about £300 as it happens. I just bunged £1400 over to Amex for LOB. Yes I know I could have got 0% somewhere else but I want to use those "somewhere elses" for stuffing into Egg Money and I wanted to get it into Amex in the alloted time period.
