Moving home - advice needed

Hi,

We are moving to a new build property and have found out that British Gas are the suppliers. We are currently with Scottish power on their capped rate until September 2009. Obviously we would prefer to stay with this. We previously had a horrendous experience with BG and have no desire to go back to them.

Is it possible to stay with SP and how do we do this?

Just phone SP, tell them you are moving to X and you want them to remain your supplier. They will do the rest.

I would also recommend to call British Gas homemovers team on 0800 048 0505 and advise them of the move-in meter reading and open a basic account.

The reason for doing this is to ensure you do not carry any of the previous tenant / owners usage across to your own bills. SP will contact BG regarding transfering the supply but they do not pass on your moving in meter reading.

What can sometimes happen is that people fail to contact the current supplier at the new address and leave the details to their old supplier to handle, and then receive a short period bill for a much larger amount than they should because neither the party moving out, or the party moving in provide accurate meter readings.
