What am I Entitled to on Job Seekers Allowance?

Hi,

I've just had to sign on for JSA as i've lost my job.

I've tried looking on all sorts of websites to see what other benefits/free services i'm elligable for but can't find any advice.

Does anyone know what else I can get free? I've got an appt at the dentist in a couple of weeks, can I can it free/discounted?

Thanks for your advice x

Do you know if you are receiving Contributions Based or Income Based JSA?

If conts based, this is not an automatic passport to other benefits. However, you may be eligible for help with health costs if you have no (or very little) other household income.

If income based, you will be eligible for help with health costs, help with housing costs (although there is usually a lengthy wait for help with a mortgage) etc.

    Thanks for your response.

    My letter states...

I am please to tell you that we can pay your.....

From 2009 we cannot pay you because your entitlement on Class 1 National Insurance Contributions has run out.

    ... I guess it's Contributions?

Yes it does sound like you are on contributions based JSA at the moment.

Yep, healy is correct, you are on conts based.

You may still be able to get assistance with housing and health costs, could you tell us what other income you have in your household?
