Capital One online application - system problems

I tried to apply for a Capital One credit card yesterday but when I clicked to submit my application a page came up saying "we are processing your application, if the next page doesn't load in 60 seconds refresh the page to see our decision." I left it a few minutes then refreshed but the same page and message came up. I went through this procedure many times over 15 to 20 minutes before giving up.

Does anyone know if...

1. the application is likely to have been processed (didn't get an email from them)

2. there will be a footprint on my credit file despite them not completing the processing of the application.

I'm considering just applying to another company but dont want 2 new credit cards or risk having the second application being refused due to there being a footprint from the Capital One application on my file.

Thanks for your help.

Give them a phone. If you provided an email address during the application I would have expected an email if it had completed, regardless of outcome.
  • If you were at the final stage they should hold your details. After the final part they normally say you've been accepted, or sent to underwriters etc. I'm guessing yours has gone through their system but stuck somewhere. But definitely give them a ring and find out.
  • Thanks for the replies, I was hoping to avoid having to phone them and someone would be able to say whether they received an email when they were accepted/refused, or if this had happened to anyone else.
  • I thought I'd let you all know, in case it happened to you.... despite not getting any answer when I applied or even an email, I got a form in this morning.

However they only offered me their classic card which is only interest free until 1st Feb not Oct...then a much higher interest rate than the other card, despite me being able to answer yes to their "excellent" credit rating questions before I applied and having a very good credit rating... I use my cards then pay them off each month and never late.

I've not decided whether to accept this card and just sign the form, part of me says well its been offered may as well use it... but then I think... that's what they're hoping for, in offering a lesser card, that people will just accept it and use it anyway.
