Co-op tend not to open an cashminder for people who have had debt with them.

Barclays will, but you will have to wait till after you have petioned to open the account with them.

I'm absolutely livid with teh Lloyds TSB. Prior to bankruptcy (Hubby June 2nd, me June 3rd) we had two joint accounts to keep mortgage apart from bills. One with Natwest that my wages went into, one with Lloyds TSB for hubby's wages to go into. The day after my bankruptcy we went into both banks to tell em we were bankrupt. The Natwest said straight away that they would write to us to tell us they were closing the account eveb though we have no overdraft and have been good customers. The Lloyds TSB said they could see no reason to close it as we have no overdraft and are good customers. So we opened a cashminder account with Co-op, no problems. They have sorted out transferring all the bills from the Natwest account and my employers are starting to pay me from there at the end of July. The Natwest have never been in touch at all. I rang Lloyds TSB and they said they had received a letter from the OR telling them we can continue to use the account (they had also sent Natwest one). Lloyds TSB said that they had it on record that we couldn't have an overdraft but that was it. So we didn't move my hubby's wages from Lloyds TSB. He got paid 30th June and today we went to supermarket and had our card declined!! Looked on line and we have my hubby's wages in there available supposedly. Rang em up and the very nice lady said that there was nothing on tha account other than stating we were bankrupt but OR had no interest and we mustn't go overdrawn! There was a record of the card being declined earlier today with a code that translated as insufficient funds! The Lloyds TSB lady on the phone was as annoyed as us. Said they should have notified us if they intended to freeze or close the account. Our local branch was closed so she told us to get up there in the morning and get some answers. I am absolutely fuming! Why tell us everythings ok then do this to us? How we supposed to buy food? We purposely left the food money etc in that account! Has anybody else had this happen to them?

I'm currently in the process of selling "our" home, and separating from my partner. Our current banking is a joint account with our mortgage. So I need to open another account for bills and things ... then once finally split, I need to make a decision regarding IVA vs BR. I guess the CashMinder would be the best option. Although I read that on the FSA site, that technically you should not use a pre-BR account afterwards.

How easy is it to get the best date for BR, so as not to affect Direct Debits or salary payments?

Hello all, I applied and was granted with a DRO back in March of this year, from then I have had a Co-Op cashminder account, but after some reading it seems to be spilt between Barclays account and Co-Op account but which is the best? I.e. for future when I sort myself out and can save more money come next April.

    Thanks, Nut97

I recently wrote tot the financial ombudsman regarding my bank accounts as I ahve been refused by both barclays and Co-op, they have advised em to go to the post office or Abbey - now Santander, The post office accounts are only for those on benefits so that is no good, but does any one have any experience with Santander after being declared bankrupt? I was only made Bankrupt in May...

    Thanks

  • In reply to your thread re your problems with Lloyds TSB. I have today gone to obtain money from cash machine at Lloyds and after several attempts went inside to see cashier. The cashier then tried herself and was unable to give me my money. She then informed me in front of a full queue of customers that my request was being denied due to bankruptcy. I then informed her that I was not bankrupt but that this must refer to my wife (who was declared bankrupt in June 2010) and that we did not in fact hold joint bank accounts. She then went away and came back asking me to go with her to see a senior member of staff. On doing this I was told that my account had been frozen and that there was nothing he could do until after the weekend. I was absolutely livid and could not believe that they had frozen my account without actually writing to inform me. I am now waiting for Monday when I hope that this will be resolved. Needless to say, I will be looking for another bank!!
