Candle wax on wall - how to remove?

I had a large candle which was blown out a bit too vigourously (thanks, DH!) and lots of wax has gone and dried on the wall in blobs.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it? The wax is now hard but I'm not sure whether scraping it off with a knife will damage the wall itself? Should I put another candle there to heat it up a bit first? Or would freezing it help, putting a bag of peas over it for a while?

Help!

  • take off what you can, then hot iron with kitchen roll paper to soak up the wax. Whats left is oily so white spirits to remove.

    Painted wall or wallpaper?

My DH did exactly the same thing. I scraped it off and did the ironing with brown paper bit but the stains are still there so the only option is to paint over it and hope it covers.
