BEWARE Dell computers

Options
Thinking of buying a computer from Dell think again.

I ordered two computers on the 12 November and wanted to pay cash of which they would not let me so as I was getting them cheap I went for the Credit option so I would'nt lose out on the deal.

I have complained to Dell regarding this issue and the fact I have been transferred by phone to no less than 7 people over a 45 minute period - India to Timbucktoo, Ireland, India ETC ETC ETC... . with in 24 hours it got to the ears of the Excecutive of the sales team who emailed me, but he is now reluctant to reply to my email may be because I mentioned MartinLewis - Last weekend I received a letter confirming the order so I went straight to the tracking section and its not there so I inquired and this morning Dell Emailed me to say it had been cancelled with no explanation , I then emailed  Dells finance department in Ireland inquiring where is the money that  I have paid and they have advised me that it has'nt been cancelled.

This morning Dell India confirmed by email that my order has been cancelled due to internal error.

I contacted the Dell finance team Ireland as they were not aware of this yesterday until I mentioned MartinLewis/Watchdog , a refund is on its way with no explanation or contact from paul_skelly@dell.com who has been so  ignorant .

They say you get what you pay for and in my case no goods and a load of hassle and disappointments.

Anyone know what the after sales service is like send an email to this man and find out paul_skelly@dell.com

Ps No offer of a replacement order - Now what would you expect.

I have ordered several computers from Dell with absolutely no problems.

The only issue that arose was on delivering two to my office, the delivery man got in a strop because our reception is not on the ground floor. He was in such a temper that he dropped one of the monitors down the stairs.

Dell offered to replace it immediately or I had the option of trying it for 14 days to see if it was okay. We went for the 14 day option and it was fine, and still is 2 years later. They refunded the delivery charge on one computer. I am still not sure whether they were being over generous or simply did not notice I had blagged free delivery from them anyway.

    COS ,

At the last three companies I have worked for we have bought hundreds of Dells. By enlarge their service is good (though support calls take a long time to get through 45mins + on average!)

You seem very unlucky COS as you seem to experience lots of bad service going by your posts!

I agree, we've ordered hundreds of Dells as well, but it's quite likely that their service levels are different for some eh ;)
  • I think you've been unlucky. Dell sell 1000's of PCs each week, so I guess they're bound to screw up a couple of orders, especially if they've not gone through the standard process.

The complaint about the call transferring is a common one; they're trying to improve this, but the fact is that most HSB (Home/Small Biz) calls will be dealt with out of Bangalore. Escalations are generally dealt with out of Ireland, as are corporate Sales. Hold times have improved significantly over the past few weeks; 45 mins was quite common, but now it should normally be a lot less.

I don't work for Dell BTW (though it might sound like it from this email!), but I do work for one of their partners, so have a good insight into what goes on within Dell EMEA.

I agree you have been unlucky, I recently bought a laptop over the internet from their website and it was delivered well within the time frame and all OK.

why dont you write them a letter detailing the problems, they might offer you some discount?

I just pop in now and then.... :)
