Life after Trust Deed?

Thank you so much for the advice Bexter. I have now had my credit file updated to show my deed as settled and all the defaults are now settled. I have even convinced one of my creditors to completely remove my default from my credit file (much grovelling required but worth it).
I think this is all I can do for the moment apart from applying for a Vanquis to try and improve my credit worthiness. Roll on 2012 when the 6 years is over!!!
Thanks again0 -

Brilliant, glad to have been of help. If it's of any encouragement, I've just been approved for a HBOS mortgage without any problems at all. Still don't have a great credit score but it's so good to know my file is clean and up to date. Vanquis probably a good idea, I have closed that now but it seemed to do the job I needed it to. Good luck.0 -

I'm 18 months through my trust deed and have just requested my credit file to see if my creditors have got their dates correct after reading on this forum that they often make mistakes.
If they are wrong at this stage would it be worth my while sending them a letter to request the date be changed to the date of the trust deed?
Hi impulsive - sorry, just saw your post. Did you get your file? I'd suggest that you can try and get it tidied up now but be aware it won't help in getting any credit - it's really more just about making sure the defaults disappear at the right time. Not sure if it's easier to do once you hahve a discharge letter - probably won't do any harm to try though.0 -
does anyone know of any places that give car credit to people discharged from trust deeds? Some say people with poor credit but we called to ask and they said not worth trying if your just out a trust deed.0

Hello there am new to this, I have used the site for info whilst I was ina trust deed. I am now clear of my Trust Deed and its a great feeling, felt I would never get here.
Since clearing my TD a few months ago I have applied for and got accepted for a Vanquis Visa card and a car loan from CARLOANS4U, I never took the car loan though as I dont really need it.
The visa I have taken to help build my file back up as I would like to move house.
I have about 25 - 35k equity in my house, does anyone know where I should go for a mortgage ?0 -
Hi folks - can I just say PLEASE get your credit files from ALL credit reference agencies and check them carefully. I completed my Trust Deed in June 2009, checked my record on Experian and was delighted to see I had a 'good' credit score and all the information was up to date. So I applied for a car loan and got knocked back. I then checked with Equifax and Call Credit and - what a mess! They both had the Trust Deed listed as still active so no wonder I was refused credit. And don't even get me started about the financial institutions which had not bothered to update my files to show that the accounts had been settled.
So - your file can be OK with one agency but a total mess with others. So get them all and sort them all out as you can never know which lender will check with which agency when you apply for credit.
ALSO - watch out for Call Credit. They do not understand the difference between an English IVA and a Scottish Trust Deed, which is totally shocking for an organisation that deals with people's financial affairs. They kept asking me for court evidence that the Trust Deed was complete - which is totally irrelevant as Trust Deeds are nothing to do with the courts in Scotland. So beware. Don't let their staff fob you off. Your discharge notice from your Trustee / the Accountant in Bankruptcy is all they should need to update your file. I had to threaten them with BBC Watchdog and the national press before I got a call from one of their customer services managers, who finally sorted the situation out for me.0 -

I was advised that you need a good lawyer who can do the legal work to protect future assets to stop them coming after you in the future.0

Hi all,
new to this, so please bear with me...
I have a PTD which I am half way through. I feel I possibly signed up to the PTD without thinking it fully through. Can anyone advise how long realistically it will take to have a relatively normal Credit File? For example, how long after discharge should I try for a CC to build my credit rating?
Also I take it that it is a complete no no to try for a mortgage whilst still in a PTD?
Sorry for the basic questions, but having read all the previous posts am now worried about my situation as I was told that a PTD would get rid of my Defaults.
