With the credit crunch and inflation do you economise on products at supermarket?
ie Like value beans, cleaning products. If so what do you now get instead of the premium or branded products

I've swapped from Heinz beans to the value beans, can't really tell the difference now. Also changed to Supermarket value toothpastes from the more well known brands. Hopefully helping save some money in the long term2017 - no clutter to be seen challenge: 72/2017
Weight loss the old style way challenge - 7/14lbs :j0 -
I get plenty of BOGOF stuff have done for years but they are getting less. I do buy some unbranded stuff like toilet cleaners, sprays. I didnt like the value beans I did like Branston beans but the formula has changed and it isnt as ncie but they are cheap and normally on offer for 25p a tin I have stacks on them at home0

my kids like the value noodles 8p a packet and the 4p curry sauce is fabonwards and upwards0

I been using the currys sauce for years iut was more than 4p at one time. I haven't tried the noodles is it Tescos ones I normally use Bachelors when on offer0

Hmm. Well we go through chocolate biscuits so fast we had to find something cheaper (obviously cant compromise and have no chocolate!:D), so we buy ASDA Smartprice 38p Milk Chocolate Wafer Biscuits and the 28p a pack Bourbon Biscuits. We havent noticed any difference taste wise just alot cheaper!0

I no longer just do a weekly shop at Sainsburys! I have switched to a lot of their Value range lines and I also visit Asda, Morrisons, Lidl and Iceland to compare their prices and special offers.
I bulk buy things when they are on offer, too."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
I have two ways of saving money when I shop in Tesco:
1 Do the shopping myself, instead of with my wife - the bill always seems to be less when I do it...
2 Shop online. I "struggle" to get even £50 when I do it this way compared to over £70 these days instore.Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0 -
I buy nescafe coffee at Lidl's which is currently £3 a jar (£5.97 per jar in Somerfield). Have traded down to Tesco ownbrand cereals - £1.79 for 'choco snaps' instead of buying coco pops (double sized box to coco pops and cheaper) - kids say they can't tell the difference. Lidl freshvale wafer thin cooked ham £2.19 for 400g rather than tesco ham at £2.98 - Lidl ham is also much nicer and doesn't have that slimey texture. I am buying marrows rather than courgettes as that works out much cheaper and they taste virtually the same. I go to Tesco, Lidls and Somerfield - and pick off the offers and BOGOFS.0

everything is smartprice unless we have tried it before and don't like it in which case it is the next up asda own brand then. Never buy better brands than that unless they are on offer and work out cheaper. 90% of my trolley is white packaged stuff! Also check the salt and fat contents on the things you buy you'll find that most of the sp stuff is actually less in these things that the top brands.
Don't get sp beans though high in salt i get ours from lidls which is less.0 -
sainsbury's basics beans are a staple in my cupboard, i prefer them to own brand.
their basics tissues are the same as most expensive tissues. toilet roll really good value if you are strapped for cash.
basics cheese is good, i didn't try it until someone recommended it on here.
i had to buy basics spaghetti because my usual wholewheat had almost doubled in price. it definitely doesn't taste as nice.
tescos basics stuff is awful mainly, never buy the beans they are runny.
but i had to buy basics butter and cheese from there the other day and both are very good.0
