Overstretched hamstring? but need advice

Hi all

I enjoy running on my treadmill a few times a week (nothing too strenuous, 1 min run 1 min walk for about 40 mins) but recently I seemed to have pulled the muscle at the back of my leg ( between back of knee & thigh-hamstring?) and although I can still run, its a wee bit sore. Does this mean I have to stop running til its settled down again (which, I'm sure I've read with muscle tissue could takes months) or can I do anything about it. I always do my stretching exercises for a couple of mins before & after so don't know why its sore? Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

  • I believe medical advice is frowned on here. Therefore I'd suggest visiting your GP.
  • As a running injury magnet I would say rest for a week or two and try again, you are not doing anything too strenuous assuming your not sprinting flat out in that 1 minute. If it doesn't clear up then you may need to see someone, GP in first instance but don't be surprised if you find them less than helpful, though you may see one with some knowledge of sports injuries. I regularly see a sports therapist with my various niggles.

Have you had running shoes fitted to your gait ? I had all sorts of silly problems until I sorted this out.

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Health board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    MEDICAL ADVICE

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
