Car Insurance - Accident - County Court Summons
Comments
-
If you have a county court summons then you need to send a copy of the letter to your insurer.
YOU need to phone the court to establish what is being expected of you. Before any case can be seen by a judge both parties must exchange details of the case. The other party have paid the court for a judge to decide if they can be awarded the £300 damages.
An earlier post stated that they had a CCJ, why? because they thought their insurer had dealt with the case. Infact the insurance company didn't deal with it and the case was awarded to the other party because no-one showed up on their behalf to fight the case.
Don't ignore it DEAL WITH IT.0 -
Following on from the above thread, I'd like to get a little advice to see if I've got this right.
My sister has third party car insurance.
She bumped into another car (her fault) in Feb 2008. She left her details as the car was unattended. The guy contacted her the next day and he took her insurance deatils. She contacted her insurance company and they dealt with it from there.
She assumed everything had been sorted until she received a Claim Form today from Northampton County Court for £887.35 requesting that she respond within 14 days.
Am I correct in thinking that:
- this needs to be settled by her insurance company and she needs to send them a copy of the claim form?
- she also needs to contact the county court directly within 14 days to explain that she has passed it onto her insurance company?
I'd be grateful for any advice0 -
You are correct on both counts.0

I have today recieved a letter from Northampton County Court demanding £1748.42 from me for a car incident that happens over 4 months ago. My insurance are aware of this so why is it being addressed to me to pay?
It says Defendant negligently attempted to overtake the claiming and drove his vehincle into collision with the claimants vehicle thus causing damage. Negligence allegation - The claimant claims damages due to the defendant's negligent driving having failed to take any action so as to avoid the said collision. Please help as I am worrying to death as I am only 18 and cannot afford this! I am with Co operative insurance and also used mirror signal maneuver to overtake a vehicle doing 5 mph on a 30 mph road when she suddenly turned right into my vehicle without any indication!0 -
Stop panicking. See reply to your own thread. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
