Need advice please!

Hi everyone,

I'm at a loss here about how much I'm paying for electricity. I live in a two bedroom flat with my boyfriend, we both work full time so we're out most of the day.
The problem is we pay about £100 a month into our prepayment metre for electricity alone we don't have gas. it just seems a lot compared to other people, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know how many kwh of electricity you use in a month or how much you pay per unit? It seems a lot (there are six of us and we pay £135 for gas and electricity - we are heavy users) but if you are heating water and have electric heating, it can be expensive. Also, I think prepayment meters are almost always a more expensive way to pay, compared to paying monthly or quarterly.
  • Thanks for the reply, we pay 16.72 pence for a standard unit and 9.06 for a heating unit. i phoned scottish hydro electric today and was assured those rates are correct, the lady did tell me though that they have scrapped the service charge of 32p per day which is a bonus!

After reading everyone else's tips i realised i shouldn't have the emmersion heater on 24/7 which we did so that's now off! hopefully see a difference soon.
