Sky Broadband - Automatic Re-connect?

I'm hoping someone can help me in regards to my sky broadband router. I cant remember the exact model, but it's a Netgear (I think the majority of the routers Sky provide are this model)
The connection sometimes drops itself, but to reconnect I have to physically re-connect to the internet by logging into the router itself and clicking the connect button.
Is there any way to automatic reconnect. On my old router before we got sky broadband, there was an automatic re-connect option even though it was a very cheap and basic brand router.
If any one can help me out on this, I'd be forever greatfull!
Thanks!

On the very rare occasion that my sky router drops the connection, it then picks it up again automatically.
Model DG834GT.
To be honest I thought that all modems would just do this.
Maybe you should have a word with Sky to see if this behaviour is OK. If not and it can't be fixed by changing a setting, then they seem to be fairly good at promptly replacing faulty routers.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Before Sky upgraded the firmware the router would not reconnect automatically.
There was a utility written by one of the subscribers to skyuser, called Mosseywell bounce sky router or similar that would reboot the router in the event of a disconnection.

If OP s router has been updated this should not be needed anymore.
The latest firmware for the DG834 is V1.03.87
If you haven't got it then have a look here

Mine always did.
And yes, my router did have the original firmware. Odd.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I recently had the same problem with my router constantly disconnecting. I contacted the Sky Broadband helpdesk & they told me they would have to re-configure my phone line. The problem was due to my line not being able to handle the speed being sent from the exchange to my router, relating to the distance I was from my exchange. After about 10 mins on the phone, Sky had reconfigured my line, sending a slower internet speed fro my exchange.
Since the call my router no longer disconnects then reconnects back to the internet.
Hope this helps!:j0 -

Sky put a cap on the line, to my mind this should only have been done as a last resort, often problems are caused by dodgy internal phone wiring, noise on the line which should be looked at before the line is capped.
This article is quite good at explaining what to do.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I have some additional information though.
I've noticed that somewhere between the time I turn my computer off for the night (about 8ish?) to when I come home from work at 5pm, the internet seems to be disconnected.
When im on the computer between the times i am home from work, I never experience any disconnection problems.
Current firmware version: V2.02.34
I read somewhere that its against sky's t&c's to update the router firmware, or something like that... is that true?0 -
The firmware I referred to is Sky's.
Sounds as if you have a V2 Router is it black in colour.
If so then the firmware upgrade is not applicable.
Can you extract your router statistics?
