Advice needed, We've just moved to this new house and the back garden fish pond is an eyesore, we want to get rid of it and have it extended to the patio for more space for the kids to play. But 2 of the landscapers I got was asking for £1600 and the other he gave a quotation of £1200 min. it's a 4ft deep pond and average size. funny enough it's got 6 medium size golden fish that we don't need at all. Right now I don't know what to do 'cause the charges are too much and the pond is smelly the pump is broken down. at least something between £500-£800 will still be reasoble for us. Does any one have some tips of how to reduce the cost i.e any D.I.Y. TIPS.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Well I would start by re homing the fish and emptying the pond, that should at least get rid of your smell. Remove the eqipment (if there is any) the liner and then start filling in with rubbish, I assume then you would just fill the other area's with topsoil ..............may be totally wrong but I think thats the way I would go!!!!0

Sounds about right. There should be plenty of places giving away free hardcore, fill. Or a few dumpy bags of soil would not cost too much.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

If it was going to cost to fill the hole in you may be able to make a feature of it by digging down and creating 'another level' to your garden and that way you can use the soil from around the pond to fill the hole in. Sure that could save you some money if possible. Then you could finish off with some topsoil or similar.0

1600 quid for a few tonnes of soil
I can only presume you're fit and able? If so do you know anyone with a trailer? Have you scaled the local papers for hardcore, most people would gladly give it away rather than pay over £100 for a skip!
At worst, I'm sure you could fill it with a some sort of combination of sand, gravel & soil (should be around £25 a tonne, though it's been 12 months or so since I last bought any).0 -

if you want hardcore try a local cement factory. There's one behind my house and if you need any they just give it to you.
Getting rid of the fish is easy enough, just eat them0
