Help - Door closing things

I'm new to all this diy stuff.
Can any one help i need to put in a new door closing thing. What i mean buy this is a small plastic thing that one part goes in the door the other on the frame. it has a sort of ball thing in it? hope you know what i mean. If you do whats is it called and how to you fit it?

The one I had originally on the door was plastic but a metal one would do fine.
The thing I need to know now is how the part is fitted to the door. It needs to be flush with door so I guess I would have to kind of chisel out so the rectangular part of the catch is flush. If so what tools are best if not then what?0 -

Yes, this looks better, but not necessary if the gap is not too small.It needs to be flush with door
Charp chisel would be fine. With a small one you can also make a hole for a cylindric part if you don't have a drill bit big enough.so I guess I would have to kind of chisel out so the rectangular part of the catch is flush. If so what tools are best if not then what?0 -
