Help - Door closing things

I'm new to all this diy stuff.

Can any one help i need to put in a new door closing thing. What i mean buy this is a small plastic thing that one part goes in the door the other on the frame. it has a sort of ball thing in it? hope you know what i mean. If you do whats is it called and how to you fit it?

    I am not sure about 'plastic', but I think metall 'things' are called 'catch':

    p1488413_s.jpgFixing is quite obvious: for the cylindrical part of the right half you need to drill a hole in the edge of the door.

    The one I had originally on the door was plastic but a metal one would do fine.

    The thing I need to know now is how the part is fitted to the door. It needs to be flush with door so I guess I would have to kind of chisel out so the rectangular part of the catch is flush. If so what tools are best if not then what?

    Yes, this looks better, but not necessary if the gap is not too small.

    Charp chisel would be fine. With a small one you can also make a hole for a cylindric part if you don't have a drill bit big enough.
