You guys probably know this, but just in case you don't ....
I've been a member of the AA since 1980. A few years back I rang to grumble that new members got discounts, but loyal members didn't. I was told that loyalty rewards were being considered, but I didn't get any money off.
I've just rang to cancel my membership (for reasons I won't bore you with) and was offered an immediate 30% discount. The operator said they were now empowered.
Moral of the story: don't be a mug like me - ring to cancel at least 30 days before your next payment date and save 30% if you want to stay with the AA (probably still more expensive than the competition though!)

I have been a member for over 25 years now and they have added complimentary home start to my option 200 subscription, so it looks like they do now offer "loyalty rewards". Having said that, you are right, they aren't the cheapest and don't cover Mainland Europe, as some others do. I for one will be checking out the competition come renewal time.0
