Does anyone know a cheap and efficient way to move to scotland we've just had various quotes for moving from leicestershire to central scotland all around £1500 - £1800 pounds. I think thats way too much. Any ideas?

The problem is the distance - time and diesel.
Assuming 2 lorries (or 1 lorry 2 trips) 300 miles each way at 10mpg - diesel close to £4 a gallon
They will both use 60 gallons - i.e fuel cost is £480 not counting running costs etc.
On top of that is the time - the return journey must be 10 hours - 2 people for each lorry = 40 man hours. even at £10 per hour that is £400.
The removal can be made cheaper if you pack and unpack everything yourself.
I cannot imagine that you will get much below £1300, but prices to vary so it is definitely worth phoning several companies to get more quotes. To infinity and beyond!0 -
How big is your house? Do you have many pieces of furniture? The last time I moved (within London) I paid £800, I had a 3 bedroom house. That was 3 years ago.0

Hi.. We moved from leics area to fife last year and got a good deal as we were able to be flexible and fit in with the removal company. Basically they fitted us in as a return load , we kept in contact re dates and they let us khow when they had a return drive coming up. The main saving, I believe was
that as the first user going south had already paid the fuel costs, we were in effect a bonus for them . I appreciate you may not be able to fit in with this but even so it is worth giving it a go.Apart from anything else the company were really professional and I would definately recommend them.
We only had a small load as my husband had been working up here and we had moved a lot of stuff over the weekends.(the company was Flemings of Rosyth who are a family company but seem quite big up here.0 -

£1100 to £1300 range is a fair price for a dedicated vehicle. As already mentioned time, distance, labour and fuel costs are the factors involved. Its common in the haulage business to use "back loads" as a means of keeping costs down etc. You should contact removal firms in the area that you are moving to, you could be lucky and find that they have vehicles in your present local on a regular basis.
