Storing Sofas

Is there any way to store them in a garage safely? Would putting plastic on the floor and wrapping them up be ok? Or will they go mouldy?

Get a couple of friends and a roll of pallet wrap (similar to a giant roll of clingfilm, you can get them on ebay) and wrap the sofas up so they're completely covered. Make sure to do underneath.
If you really want to be safe I'd also put a plastic sheet down in the garage and sit the covered sofas on that.
Shouls stay safe for ages, I've managed to safely store stuff in a damp garage for months using that method. Just be generous with the wrap.0 -
ive stored some bits and theyve stayed ok
wrap them very well in plastic inc underneath and tape up any joins , then stand it off the floor on some blocks of wood, you can get a cheap tarpulin to put over the top as an extra measure if the roof might drip
do the cushions come off? maybe wrap those and store them in the loft ?0 -
It may be that there are worse enemies to your sofas than damp. I once took all the damp-proofing steps given above but didn't realise that a field mouse would come in and decide that my lovely feather cushions would make a grand nest - cue several mice mothers and dozens of babies all running about having a lovely time!0

I have just had to throw mine out for the same reason. I didn't think about mice and the damage they can do.0 -
Ok I have found a barn to store them in that isnt dam but suffers bird droppings but I think its better than the Garage, so I will take off the cushions and just wrap the frames up in loads of plastic and try and get them off the floor.
Thanks guys.Pawpurrs x0 -
Be fore warned by previous posters!
I put my furniture in a barn on our land whilst doing renovations and the critters destroyed a very expensive sofa and several electrical items including a cooker.
Insurance won't payout for critter damage either.
Also this time of year is the worst, now the harvest is finished.
If you insist on putting them in the barn set plenty of traps and leave loads of poison
Good luck!Control is an illusion, chaos is the reality. A successful warrior dances with chaos, and success means simply that one is still alive.0 -
A barn may be the worst possible place to store your sofas. Barn = agricultural land = spilt grain or hay shedding dry grass seeds = rats and mice = winter coming on! If the place is already full of bird droppings, just be aware that mice will come to the droppings as at this time of year, and for the next couple of months, the droppings are full of blackberrry, elderberry, apple, crab apple, pear seeds.
You do, by all means, what suits you the best but please don't say that we didn't warn you!
Have you really not got a friend or relative who will store them indoors for you?0 -
No unfortunetly I dont have any one that can keep them inside for me,My thinking is I will strip the cushions off and just store the frames, wrapped extremley well.Pawpurrs x0
