Microsoft Outlook 2000 Help

Can anyone help please. I cannot access my emails due to getting an error report in Outlook. When I send the error report it takes me to the microsoft website and tells me that Outlook 2000 is in an extended support phase and that I should consider upgrading. Is there any way round this? Something I can perhaps download. Thanks in advance.

The error code is 0xc0000005 and then it says the following files will be included in this error report:

    C:\DOCUME~ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\ef87_appcompat.txt
  • That error code is the standard code for an access violation which is generally a programming error (aka a bug).

What is the name of the .exe file that accompanies it?

It might need you to uninstall Outlook and reinstall it! Which will pose problems (so I dont recommend doing that just yet) as you need to backup your address book, any emails and make note of the account settings for your smtp and pop servers.

If you have the Office CD with your version of Outlook on it, you could pop that in and see if you can repair the isntallation of Outlook, as this will overwrite your installation without removing your emails/settings.

there you go anewhope has sorted it :-)

Hopefully someone can shed more light on it but thats all I know at the moment.

  • I have tried all morning to try and fix the problem using the fix from anewhope but still not getting anywhere. Anyone any ideas what I should do now.
  • Do you have outlook express installed on the PC as well as Outlook 2000?

If so fire up Outlook express, and it may ask if you want this to be your default email client, and may ask if you want to import your settings/address book ect from OL2000.

If you could do that, it would mean you have saved your address book ect, then you are free to unistall and reinstall OL2000.

But please make sure you have a copy of your address book and any important emails and the smtp and pop server addresses before uninstalling OL2000 so you dont loose anything important.
