in Credit cards
My husband has one of their cards with a ridiculously low limit, even though he is a high earner. They put up his credit limit by a meagre £100 in the last couple of years.
I mentioned to him that some cardholders had managed to get 4000 nectar points for threatening to cancel & suggested he try the same. Twice he called and asked what they could offer him not to cancel. On both occasions they offered nothing. The 3rd time, he simply asked to cancel, didn't ask for anything. When asked his reason for cancelling, he said the credit limit was useless and there are no benefits to keeping the card. He was then put through to a special advisor who deals with valued customers. She told him only 8% of customers are put through to her (I bet they say that to everyone!!). Anyway, this girl offered to upgrade his card, put a credit limit up to his annual salary, and offered him 0% on BTs for 9 months. Talk about going from one extreme to another!! He then asked if he could have the 4000 nectar points as well. She said she would have gladly given them to him ,but they have removed the button from the operator's screen.
Looks like perserverance pays off eh? :rotfl:

Sometimes perseverance pays off. I was with barclay card for 6 years and managed a credit limit of 25000 without a single payment missed...they made a lot of money on interest while I was blissfully unaware of the 0% BTs etc for a few years.
When I called to cancel..the customer service person didnt make any fuss. She made no attempts to make me stay and cancelled it straightaway!
Must have been in a bad mood that day!0 -
Very happy with my Barclaycard and the low APR I have with them (fixed for life). They offered me that when I was going to cancel a few years back. I use it to spend on and then just BT all the balances to a 0%**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0

i've been with them for a little while, I'm not a huge spender but probably spend a lot for someone my age. I'm a graduate and I'm now in a very good job in finance. I kept good finances my whole time through uni, and have no student debts. I have never missed a payment (approx 3 years with them), and I usually clear my balance by paying it off from my current account intra-month.
called to up my balance the other day as got dangerously close to my limit and wanted to buy something that would take me over, and they wouldn't do it!!! I said I'd cancel and wasn't joking, and that since they've removed all the benefits there's no incentive for me to keep my business with them, and he didn't care. So now I'm applying elsewhere, and when I sign on the dotted line, they've lost a good, low risk customer.
I'm glad this happened in a way, but I wish I'd switched sooner, if I'd got on a cashback card scheme I'd have earned a good few hundred pounds this year :-(0 -
My husband has had a Barclaycard for about 25 years and the balance is now zero as he transferred the balance to a MINT 6.9(?)% until March next year.
As per the advice on here, he rang up to close the account and said this would happen unless they could offer him the same interest rate for life of balance, and not charge a balance transfer fee. 'Yes we can do that for you!' Not as good as 0% but suits us (general credit rating poor due to my history so better for him to use what credit he already has)
Just shows there is nothing to lose by asking.0
