Beginners help please!

Hi,

Not sure if I am in the right place, but there seems to be lots and lots of information available and I am not sure where to start.

I have recently got engaged, and due to get married in 18 months time.

I would like to put some money aside each month, perhaps £100 or so, and will need access for deposits and such - but no sure the best way of going about this.

I am not sure which account/isa to go for, and keep hearing all these things about banks crashing and I don't now enough about it to make an informed decision?! :(

Any help/advice please - or if I have posted in the wrong place can someone point me in the right direction please?!

You are protected up to 35K with each banking organisation (some organisations own several banks), so you really have nothing to worry about with such a small sum.

Start with an instant access cash ISA as these give tax free interest, you can save up to £3600 in a cash one each year. Instant access meaning you can get at your money when you wish.

The current best rated/top paying ones are listed here at Moneyfacts.

For more info on ISAs read the guide at the start of this website, here.

Once you've used up your £3600 yearly cash ISA limit, look at instant access savings accounts.
