Absent and boss calling at home

I was once off work with a back spasm that meant i literally could not move out of bed.
My boss phoned me at home and when i didn't answer stormed round to my house assuming i was swinging the lead.
She left rather shame faced when i explained that i couldn't answer as i couldn't get out of bed and her phoning every five minutes for an hour had been slightly annoying!!!
This was in the days before mobiles and cordless phones!!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Is it bad for a work colleague to come and check on you when you are off ill and don't answer the phone?
 Bozo
In the days before mobiles, I would phone any staff member who was more than 30 minutes late and hadn't phoned in sick beforehand. I considered that a reasonable duty of care to ensure they were safe.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

That's absolutely fair enough mark. I would like to think my boss would make enquiries about me as he knows I would always let him know what was happening, plus I live alone so it would be better safe than sorry if he were to get no response from me to then try my listed emergency contact just in case.
So far as when you are already off ill though, if you've phoned, given them an indication of how long you will be off or let them know daily that you still won't be in, then they really shouldn't be bothering you with trivialities.
As for your experience pukkamum, that's outrageous!0

So how did she get in the house if you were unable to get out of bed?0
