Absent and boss calling at home

They can ring you at home, yes. But if you think they are being intrusive or that the call was unnecessary (they could easily have dealt with it without bothering you), then do speak up to them. Sometimes they are just not considering how poorly you might be, or because you are such a good employee they think you won't mind.
It can go over the top though. If you have a very good attendance record it can go against you sometimes. On the one hand, they really miss you when you are not there as you are so reliable, so things might come up that would be easily dealt with by a quick phone call to you at home, rather than have someone else try to work it out and take a day to do so. On the other hand, they forget that if you are off work sick then that means you really are poorly (and your attendance record shows you are not in the 'off work with a sore finger' brigade) and shouldn't be distrubed.
I had it once, I really was poorly in bed and this guy kept ringing me. I ended up shouting at him in the end 'why the hell do you think I'm not in work? It's because I am NOT WELL and I am IN BED trying to rest and feel better and I won't be able to do that with numbskulls like you ringing me up over trivial matters that can be sorted out next week'. Anyhow, that particular chap was then a bit frightened of me after that. 0 0

You have no idea what I do or indeed why I am off and that is the way it is going to stay....and that's just going to plain annoy you isn't it?!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
My query was answered and I thank the people for that
Ok so you ask a question but refuse to give the vital information
Yes its legal to do it, but the justification and moral/ethical righteousness as well as the rights if it ever went to court clearly are dependent upon your job, the query and the perceived intent behind it.
Your query was half answered because frankly its impossible to give an informed answer with half a story
As for being abuse, no it was called the facts, your continous insistance on refusing to give the necessary facts to get a full and frank answer is just making me wonder what exactly your motives here are and how genuine your grievance is in them calling you0

TBH i take it as a compliment that my boss callsme and asks what i think about stuff on my day off. it shows that hearing my side of things or that her taking into account how i feel about thing that have happened is important to her.0

Yawn....I phoned my union, asked them the same question as I posted and got a straight answer. Impossible? It would seem not :rotfl: :rotfl: Did I ever use the word ethical or moral in my question? No, so that would seem to me that I am not interested in that aspect. I wanted to know if it was legal ("allowed") and I got my answer in the 3rd response....why are you so keen to know every single little nitty gritty aspect of a situation which has nothing to do with you and I was happy with the answers given until you came blundering in? What a sad little individual you are and on reading some of your other posts you clearly like to pass judgement and are a pretty unpleasant person all in all0

i was off recently due to planned surgery, as a result of having a date i would be off from i was able to leave concise notes of the things i was dealing with, i also left my mums home number as i was spending a few weeks recouperating at her house. thankfully my workplace did not need to contact me to query these matters - but i wouldn't have been offended if they did, although i was in hospital for 5 days and they were aware i was not contactable for that period. however if you go off sick you dont generally have time for that level of preparation and you may need to be contacted so as someone else can deal with matters you have been dealing with.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

 Is this allowed?
It has happened to me twice. Once on a Sunday morning, I didn't mind because it was an emergency.
Perhaps you feel too poorly to deal at the moment with calls and it would be nice if they respected that but if there is a question they need you to answer it's regrettable but maybe it was unavoidable. No longer half of Optimisticpair

To be honest my boss is a bit of a control freak and likes to exert her 'managerial' (ahem) rights when she can. It wasn't important as what she asked I had already answered the week previous - when I was at the start of me being off sick and gave instructions about what should be done.;)
Anyways, it's done now and I know the answer to my question. Thanks for the response.:)0

We have a policy were you have to contact someone who is off sick regularly (about twice a week). This is to keep them up to date with work, ask them how they are feeling etc.
So yes, its fine, and encouraged!
(However, its a big no no to contact someone when they are off on Leave).
