Poison is the best method for ridding yourself of mice. It does however have some drawbacks, for example I used it a few years back and a couple of mice died under the floorboards - the whole house stunk until I pulled up all the floors and found where they were. Not a pleasant sight.

Traps do work as well but mice breed quite often so you will have to put loads down to catch the numbers required.

The best solutions are really preventitive measures - seal up any entrances into the house, gaps under skirting boards etc. Also make sure that you do not leave food lying around, even the smallest of crumbs attracts them - cut off their food supply and there is a good chance they will go somewhere else, e.g. to your neigbours house. :-[

Please DO use the be nice to mice, friendly traps. It'll work first night, you put it out.

Make sure you set the mouse free, a loooooooooooong way from your house - else he'll be back!!

Apart from the most unpleasent way, the chemicals work, should you choose to use them - it REALLY is NOT an instant, or painless solution.

Plus, of course, you'll need to be very aware of the locations of bait - other animals & small people are also inquisitive.

& as mentioned, decaying creatures don't smell too good, either!!

Hubby thought he saw one run across to the gas fire so he set a trap under there with the only thing we had in the house that was sweet - a lump of apple pie. When we checked the trap an hour later, we had caught a mouse. It was about six inches long (including the tail) and dark grey, I thought house mice were brown and tiny!

Now if a bloke had said it was 6in i'd probably have thought they were exagerating, but as a woman its more likely your spot on  ;D

But on a more serious note,  house mice do tend to be a lot smaller than that however field mices are bigger, but now please don't let this frighten you and im not definate, but at that size it could possibly have been a young rat  :-/ its possible that its just come in to get away from the bad weather, and probable that it was just the one
Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission ;)

Love doesn't make the world go round, it's what makes the ride worthwhile

    ya still freezing :p

I guess I'm not the only one with mice problems in my area. Most of the shops round here are out out stock of mouse traps. I'm off to buy some peanut butter, the apple pie isnt working any more.

How about playing a flute while hang gliding off a cliff.

They're bound to follow you...legend has it.
