NPower woes

Options
It's a long story which i'll try to keep v. short so no one loses the will to live.

We have economy 10 and were with Eon, June 07 asked NPower if they could support that tariff were told they could so switched to them.

Received all the usual fluff from them and nothing else, called repeatedly asking for bills nothing.

December receive a letter saying they cant support us on the plan we signed for so you can have this one instead. - Still no bill

Heard nothing until May 08 despite constant letters and calls from us

May 08 receive a letter saying we'll be taking £50 a month to pay for you electricity (£50 for current usage and arrears apparently)

June 08 receive letter dated 4 days before we received it saying they were coming on the following monday (2 days notice) to disconnect us!!!

Called immediately and paid £200 there and then (they wanted £700) and reset the DD to pay £120 a month for usage and arrears.

No explanation about what happened, no apology nothing. Made a complaint on their website got emails back saying blah blah we'll send you a complaint leaflet etc etc

I called asked for unit prices and times got put on hold for THIRTY minutes and gave up. Asked same question via email and got the unit price, they didnt bother answering the one about the off peak times.

Sent another email back saying off peak times? Got one back 7 days alter (ie today) saying they are the same your local provider set as we dont control those, great answer except we don't know what the old hours were which was why we were asking.

Soooo 2 questions:

Anyone know the email address of the CEO of NPower?

Can you move supplier whilst owing money (not trying to dodge paying just want to move back to Eon and then pay Npower off as they're hopeless!!)

Any other suggestions i'm really fed up with dealing with them they're useless

  • I didn't think Npower could support any dual mpan supply such as E10.

Have you received any bills from them so far?
  • NPower are not fair with their tariff pricing. On gas they charge me a primary rate for gas at 7.832p per unit up to 4572 kWh per year but on a seasonally adjusted rate
Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb @ 882 units per month
    March @ 272
    April, October @ 271
May, June, July, Aug, Sept @ 46
    Annual total 4572
This makes it very difficult to compare prices with other companies as I have to work out my usage for every month of the year to get an accurate comparison. Or do other companies use the same monthly adjustable tariffs?

And the relevance to this thread is?
  • Rich, Npower were correct in one respect, ie they do not control the times of E7 or E10, the supplier for your region does that. Having said that, if you have a mechanical time clock then the times would vary depending on the accuracy of your clock. If controlled by a radio signal then the times would be as per yopur local supplier.
I take it that you did not receive a bill and thus did not pay any money between Jun 07 and May 08?? There are loads of threads on here that say if you have not received a bill then they can only bill you for the 12 months preceeding the first bill you receive. I hope you saved the money you should have paid during that year.
As per your other question, you will not be able to leave npower whilst still owing them a substantial amount, you will have to pay it off first.
  • Thanks for the replies we don't know what the times are and I appreciate that Npower do not control the times but surely they could have just told me instead of being deliberately obtuse about it.

Don't really know much about E10 as it was here when we moved in I know you get 5 hours at night and then 2 boosts during the day (well afternoon and evening) but don't know the times and as Npower are the supplier I thought that they could tell me but seeing as they couldnt even tell me what the unit prices are well.....

Thanks for the suggestion about the 12 months but as the first bill was just before the 1st anniversary there's nothing to do there.

We have still no received a bill to date, we got a "statement" but no bills

The thing that really annoys me is I told them we had an E10 meter and they said they could support it or I would not have signed with them.

There's a formal complaint going in to them now and i'll also make a complaint to Energywatch as well as far as i'm concerned they attracted my business by lying to me (plan, unit price and they could support E10)

You will not get a bill if you pay Direct Debit You get a Statement.
A statment is what it is called it is a 6 monthly or anuall statment of the units of gas and electric that you have used and a statement of how much you have credited to your account.
