Does any one know how to dispose of a FF, do the council take them away? it's not suitable for freecycle.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
most concils will take these away but a lot charge these days (ours is approx £10-15 for first item and less for each additional item), Is it totally broken because you would be suprised what gets taken when offered on free cycle, you could also try calling a scrapman they might take it away for you when next in the area

When you have a new fridge/freezer delivery you can often now pay a bit extra to have the old one taken away.

Alternatively, councils will usually take them away for a charge. If it'll fit in your car take it to the local tip (which is what we did with our last one) where you should be able to get rid of it for nothing - at our local rubbish tip when disposing a fridge/freezer you have to put your name and address down in a book and sign to say your not a business.

  • Councils collect them for free in Birmingham,And i dont see why any other local authority should be any different? You can also dispose of them at the local tip,If you can get it there.
Scrap men do not take them, fridge freezers contain gasses that have to be disposed of correctly(in case you never knew).

OOppss sorry posted at the same time.Cannot believe you have to pay!!!

Thanks Jim, it's not totally broken it's just the non freeze compartment keeps freezing, I didn't really want the inconvenience of dealing with free cycle.

  • Birmingham City council will collect up to 6 items free and one of the items can be a fridge or freezer, looks like we are getting a good deal in the West midlands then.

Stop complaining about the Council Tax. We have to pay over £220 per month. Alright!, so it is a big house, which we built ourselves. But we are only on the same pension as everyone else.
I think that our local council charges £25 to take big items away. This is the price per visit, not the price per item.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
