When we bough our white goods we went round the shops and picked out the ones we liked - spoke to family and friends to see what makes they recommend - and then went online and found a good deal.

I would recommend Empire Direct as a company, they delivered when they said they would and we got extra garantees.

Which is good for white good reviews - I think you can sign up free for a few weeks - just remember to cancel your membership when the freebie runds out!

    Hope this helps

john lewis certainly for great service and warranty.

also empiredirect.co.uk too, for good prices and they will haggle if you are buying 2 items or more.

comet and currys are the last resort. all they wanna do is sell you a warranty.
    Get some gorm.
  • Hi, we just re-did our whole kitchen, with all new appliances. I used a site called www.whiteboxdeals.co.uk, a white goods-specific comparison site which represents all the major retailers and has a lot of discount codes. Bought a new fridge from Dixons, extractor fan from Electric Shop, oven and hob from Comet. The site is easy to use!
  • The awful thing was that we didn't hardly use them and they still conked out.

I am sure that Beko have a timer in their appliances which says 'blow out after 400 days'.

My father is a refridgeration engineer and he used to work in Saudi Arabia and he looked at my fridge and said that you cannot get replacements for them in this country. Same for the Dishwasher, but I did get a dishwasher man in too.
  • I now have a fridge from JLewis and a dishwasher from JL and a huge freezer. If the break down at least I know I can go back to them.

Beko parts are available quite readily. The refrigeration engineer had no problem finding the replacement compressor for our's which was delivered to me within a few days. He was well aware of how rubbish Beko customer service was though. Beko appliances are manufacturered in Turkey so the parts are imported from Turkey too. When the part arrived the label on the outside of the box showed at least 10 other brands all manufacturered by Beko (most of which i hadn't heard of) - so there's a few others to avoid!!

  • I bought a gas hob by Zanussi on the strength of a lovely fridge-freezer of theirs I'd had years before, but the hob discoloured on first use and I've never been able to get the back 2 rings to simmer without going out.

As for John Lewis, I wanted to buy an American-style fridge-freezer from them but I emailed an enquiry and they replied that they won't deliver to an upstairs flat.

I'm awaiting delivery of a Samsung fridge-freezer from Dixons (they tried to deliver on the allotted day but the message hadn't got thru that I'd postponed)... but, unlike some other retailers, Dixons don't seem to do a pre-delivery "survey", so I'm expecting them to get here and exclaim "Cor blimey, we ain't humping this monster up all them stairs!" - I'll let you know what happens on the new delivery date, the 26th.

  • Hmmm, wish I'd read a post like this three months ago when we bought our Beko fridge freezer - it decided it wasn't going to continue freezing last week and I had to throw away the food.
We had the guarentee with it so phoned them straight up - the man from Comet came out and changed the motor and fingers crossed all is well!
    Wouldn't buy Beko again!
  • I ended up buying an indesit washing machine and a Daewoo frost free fridge freezer from currys.

The washing machine was reduced in store from £270 down to £250 and then the sales assistant knocked £20 off the Fridge Freezer which was £270 when I asked her about a discount.
