Credit card/bank fraud

I recently dealt with someone who had £6000 taken from his account whilst the thief used his photo driving license as ID, the bank clearly didn't check the photo when the guy asked to withdraw the £6000, crazy, luckily the guy was insured.

With the rising problems in credit card/bank fraud how can we make sure we are protected and insured against credit card/bank fraud? I have Sentinel card protection for my credit card but does that give me protection against fraud?

What can I do about my bank account as if I was to lose £6000 I would be... er... stuffed.

My husband lost a month's salary because someone phoned Abbey National claiming to be him and transferred it out to somewhere else. We got absolutely no help from Abbey who froze his old account then failed to pay his next month's salary into his new one. They took 2 months to refund us and sort out the new account, after numerous calls and complaints to various offices. We never did find out where the money went. I would have left Abbey and argued for compensation but my DH panics about stuff like that and wouldn't let me write one of my letters. We've now got an electric shredder for all our documentation.

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.
  • Fraud happens and it takes some time for the bank to get it all sorted out.

I know; I manage the antimoneylaundering team for an international investment bank. But if we treated our customers the way Abbey treated us, we'd lose them.
