Windows Media Player Help needed

Normally I use Windows Media Player to burn audio cd's from mp3's on my hard drive with no problems. I click on burn, put a cdr into the burner and drag mp3's into the burn list on Media Player and an indicator near the top shows how much room I have left on the cdr.

Now when I put a cdr into the burner the indicator on Media Player quickly moves from left to right with a red line and indicates 'filled'. Thats before I have put any mp3's into the burn list.

I have used lots of different cdr's including from a pack which was unopened but always the same result. The indicator fills up with a red line and shows 'filled'. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or what the problem is?
