Sad though I am that lots of people have lost their jobs over this, I think for a long time the Western banking system has been greedy and over-reaching itself with more and more financial techniques being adopted that don't necessarily stand the test of strong sunlight. Sooner or later something like this was bound to happen. If the current bankruptcies result in some sounder, more ethical banking principles being implemented and operated going forward, we will all benefit. Meanwhile, all of us have to take a hit and feel the pain in our investments and pension schemes. Whilst it sounds heartless, I don't feel particularly sorry for investment bankers who are losing their jobs. If they've had any sense they will not have frittered away their big salaries and huge bonuses away on Ferraris and high living but will have put money away for the lean years ahead. If they haven't, they don't have enough common sense and intelligence to be working in the banking system and I wouldn't want them managing my money anyway.0
