Shower waste pipe leaking!

Hi, I am currently snowed under with diy jobs at the moment. The big one I need to tackle is a leaking shower (coming from the waste pipe underneath the shower tray).
It is a newly fitted shower - the problem is the plumber who installed it is a friend who did it for free. However because of his work load and a few other problems, we are having trouble getting him to come and look at it.
I am thinking of tackling the job myself. Does the piping need to come out and done again (tightening the join has made no difference) Or can I buy some kind of sealant to make the leak good. Thanks for any advice.

Are you sure this is the bit thats leaking? If it is then it sounds like theres no ptfe tape around the join - it's that filmy/stringy white tape... It should be used on compression (threaded) type fittings as it forms a good seal and stops water leaking..
You can get it from DIY stores for less that a pound in the plumbing section, wind it round the threaded part in the same directions as you would screw the fitting on - you should wind it round about 10 times to get a good seal and then carefully wind the fitting back on..
Edited to say - there may also be some grit in the fitting that is stopping you get a good seal OR you may be missing the rubber seal at the end of the fitting..0 -
Or it might be cross threaded, just keep messing about with it until it seals or put a new one on (shower tray trap) £4 MaxOH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0
