Xmas Goose £12.99 at Lidl

Options
I've just returned from Lidl in Hereford, where they have 4k goose for £12.99. (Free range, from Germany.) They shouldn't be in the shop for another week - but they've arrive early! Probably the same throughout the country - There is only going to be limited stock - so check it out early.
(Last small goose I bought was £28 - so this is a real bargain)

I love Goose at Xmas :j

Cheers, picked up three in Norwich.

Last year I got the last one at about five past nine on the release day so finding a cabinet with about twenty in was a pleasant surprise.

Last year's was excellent by the way.

I don't think I've ever had goose and I quite fancy giving it a try. Is it similar to anything else - I imagine it being a bit like duck
  • Similar in that it is a dark meat but I find goose much richer - I can eat half a duck but half a goose ........... !!! More like just a couple of small pieces. Not keen on it cold in sandwiches but my husband thinks it is excellent.
I got one from Morrisons last year for £19.99, it was very good (a goose that is - not a husband :rotfl: :rotfl: )

Because it's so much richer my german friends traditionally serve it with new potatos, red cabbage, a cucumber and dill salad and an apple type stuffing. They make a sauce from the giblets with onion and red wine. Its absolutely delicious. YUM YUM

I went to Lidl yesterday and said to the woman serving "I'd like a goose please"

...................... she grabbed my @rse and gave it a good squeeze

(needless to say, I'm going back today for another) :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • Spent a while last night looking around the shop for this and at first thought I was on a wild goose chase :-)

Then found a freezer with new products and there was just two left, so thanks to the OP. I was about to give up on finding a goose at a reasonable price. Got my parents coming this year and wanted to do something different. Not done goose before so hope this turns out well.
