Is child benefit paid 4 weeks in advance or arrears?

My son is 18 and left home on the 2nd of july
23 june i was paid child benefit for 4 kids
21 july i was paid for 3 kids
18 Aug paid for 3 kids
and today 15 sept was paid a reduced amount.
The reduced amount is 3 weeks child benefit. I am guessing that they are taking an overpayment of 3 weeks for my son off me but i always thought child benefit was paid 4 weekly in arrears.
Tryed to get an answer out of child benefit but online have to wait between 10 and 20 days for an answer and when i finally got through on the phone the person couldn't deal with it and i have to wait for another department to ring me back in the next 72 hours.
so can anyone tell me how it is paid, if it is paid in advance then this is correct but if in arrears its not

It's paid 4 weeks in arrears according to here:
http://www.clearstart.org/uk-government-benefits.phpChild Benefit is paid every four weeks in arrears. However it can be paid weekly if:- You are a single parent; or
- You or your partner are receiving Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

Thanks. In that case they actually owe me 4 weeks.
The 3 they have not paid and the one for the week my son was still at home after my payment on the 23 june.0
