Durashift

Can someone let me know what durashift means? Is it a car that is both automatic and manual? The car I have seen is Zetec Climate 3dr 1.4 16V Durashift EST.

It's basically an auto, but may have a manual override for gear selection. See here.

Is that similar to the stupid ones that are in the smaller cars these days? Manual gear box and electronic clutch?? Terrible drive - and I am talking about the Toyota ones. I wouldn't have one. I'd only have a 'proper' auto or a 'proper' manual.

These manual autos are meant to keep emissions down - and save the planet all in one go I believe. :rolleyes:

Hi,

Ford do somewhat confuse thing with the term Durashift as there is:

Durashift - A full blown auto (with torque converter) which can be driven in a 'manual' mode.

Durashift CVT (now deleted from the entire Ford UK range) - A Constantly Variable Transmission Automatic

and

Durashift EST - (Electronic Shift Transmission) - an 'advanced manual' as they call it. It is really a manual gearbox with an electronic clutch which can also be driven in automatic mode.

However they now have as well:

Powershift - a 'twin clutch' semi automatic similar to VW's DSG (Direct Shift Technology).
