Acer Travelmate help needed :)

I have an acer travelmate 212 series that works fine except for one annoying problem .....when you turn it on you have to go into the bios everytime and reset the date and time and then let it continue with starting up.....apparently its something that cant really be solved (well thats what ive been told)....sooooooooo two things - can the motherboard/mainboard in this model be replaced and if so is there any other model that would fit the 212 series???.......hope ive made sense here lol....thanks in advance

Sounds like the battery on the motherboard needs replacing.

These are easily replaced on desktops, so I assume they are as easily replaced on laptops.

It needs a new CMOS battery fitting to the motherboard. It would not be economic to fit a new motherboard, it only needs a cheap battery.

  • Just beware that some of the CMOS batteries in the ACERS were soldered and not just held in a housing (this may not be the case for yours)

Thats the exact problem - the CMOS battery is not able to be replaced as in most other pc/laptops and thats why Im wondering if the motherboard/mainboard can be easily replaced.

I appreciate everyones input - thanks

  • cost you as much to replace the Motherboard as it would to buy a new laptop probably witht he cost of the board and then the labour to strip it out and reinstall a new one.
