Said it before and I'll say it again. They're a waste of money I believe. Those who are frugal enough to care how much things cost won't need one, those who are frivolous and spend a fortune on power won't have one.0

You can say what you want but others may be interested as they only come up now and again at this price.

I also think they encourage spending money to save money, you have to pay for them first (this one is only £7 I know but its still spending money when you dont need to IMO) then what do you do when you see how much your fridge is costing you to run? Buy a new one?
Need to know how much electricity you are using? Read the meter! Its cheaperMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Reading the meter will not tell me or my daughter how much leaving her TV, DVD & Digibox either on or on standby costs.
Yes, it is spending money, but if it encourages the rest of my household to switch stuff off then it will eventually pay for itself.

Just means you will become unpopular at home due to moaning at everyone and constantly stomping round turning everything off.
Ive got one from years ago when Npower where giving them away to business customers.
Good bit of kit and worth having IMO0 -

Surely there are frugal people who simply haven't a clue 'how much things cost'.
There are many on here who seem to feel that their TV on standby overnight is the major cause of their high consumption and their preoccupation is ensuring standby is minimised to the exclusion of far more important items.
I am fairly 'switched on' about electricity consumption, but I found it interesting to find out how much my fridge(s) freezer, Sky boxes, dryer etc used.
I have lent my meter to family and friends and a pal discoverd an old freezer was costing a fortune to run, and replaced it.0 -

I have one of these and they CAN be useful. Only problem being they are not 'in yer face'. In fact, unless you get very up close it's impossible to tell how much the unit is telling you the particular appliance is using! Kids don't find them at all interesting, either. Regard them as for use by singletons/ geeks, lol.
For a very similar price I believe there may be still time to get yourself an OWL wireless usage monitor from the Daily Mail (you may have to ask friends who have it if they have a couple of old copies so that you can retrieve the coupon). The cost of 8 Daily Mails plus £2.92 P&P comes to 8p LESS than one of these plug in monitors and no visit to Aldi required. Full details here:
