HSBC have said Sorry!!!

Hi all,

I wrote last week about the complaint I had sent to HSBC. I received a letter on Saturday (2 days after my 14 days but at least they responded) stating that they were sorry for the inconvenience they had caused and I'm to call about a refund of my last batch of charges. :T :T :T

This is a result for now.....and I'm going to call them this afternoon.

Very pleased and feel slightly vindicated in my feelings! :rotfl:

Still not out of the woods yet but at least that's the major hurdle crossed!!

Thanks fr the support and help guys,

A

I know it's a susidiary of HSBC but have you thought about opening a First Direct telephone / internet account? I cannot recommend this bank highly enough, I have been with them for years and they have been nothing but helpful.

Unlikely the OP will pass FD's credit scoring.

    Hi,

Can I just ask what did you say to get the charges back?

I sent a letter Re the Chearges and they just sent me a standard letter regarding the test case and that I need to wait until the outcome of this. I then wrote another letter mentioning what Martin has said about the FSA's financial difficulty tactic but they just sent me pretty much the same letter as before.

I even asked nicely that if they can refund the charges then I would clear the overdraft asap and close the account. Unfortunately no luck though :(

  • Hi,

Moneymiser, I'm afriad I got excited too soon.

I called and I have to go through a whole acre of paperwork under the financial hardship scheme where if you have had loads of charges and have missed lots of bills you can claim them back as they have caused you to move into a 'poverty bracket' - or at least that's what the man on the phone said. This is a loophole in the case as anyone can do this but HSBC have recommended me to try this course of action. Still no guarantees though so hubby is setting about the normal re-claim method.

They have said they will call me back to go through my situation including all of my income/outgoings and then I have to wait for them to decide if I'm poor enough! Grrrrr!

At least I got some kind of response. On other news though, the Co-op (who I also spoke to last night re DD's that have been set up wrong...booooo!....have said that I can be bumped up to a standard account in 2 months if I behave myself! :T :T :T So another result.

Thanks for the tip off about First Direct. I have actually head good things about them and if I hadn't originally been with HSBC I would consider them. As someone said though my credit rating at the moment is dire but I'm working on it. Getting a proper accout will help I feel! :) :j

    Thanks for the feedback guys,

    Good luck with your re-claims!

  • Hi,

After what seemed like a promising letter from HSBC apologising for the 'inconvenience' I've now been told that it will take another 2 weeks (on top of the week already gone) to be able to even get back to me to go through my complaint and my figures to see if I'm eligible!

On the plus side BT are back on side so Yay!

    I'll update later.
