Benefits after Dismissal from Job

I have been dismissed from my job and was wondering if anyone could give me a little advise.
I was working part time and claiming working tax credit (single parent 2 children).
Can anyone tell me if I will be allowed to claim any benefit as I have been dismissed from my job does this make a difference to being able to claim benefit?
This is my first post but I have read a lot on the site and you people seem to be very helpful.

Assuming at least one of your children is under 12 (as I'm not sure when the new regs come in?) then I think you can just go back onto income support as a single parent.0

I was wondering about jobseekers allowance as I want to try and find another job as soon as I can?
Would this be the wrong benefit?0 -
I don't think it matters whether you are on IS or JSA as a single parent, although it does affect some insurance on loans and mortgages depending on their t&c.It's the same amount of money.
I know IS also opens the door to some other benefits, such as Council tax benefit.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -

And free school meals. Although, perhaps jsa qualifies you for this too?0 -
You may well be sanctioned if you go down the Jobseekers route.
Income Support is the safest way to go, nothing stopping you looking for and getting work while on Income Support.
